Congratulations, you started a business!
Now, how do you get paying clients?
You need to be found on the internet of course!
Don't have the money to pay a digital marketing agency?
No worries, you can do it yourself and save a ton!
It took years for us to learn all the moving parts of SEO, and we still have to keep up with it on a daily basis. Don't worry though, it won't take you nearly that long thanks our DIY SEO course, Internet Solutions Mastery.
We can cover that later. For now, we want to share with you some FREE tips to get you started.
DIY SEO Tip #1 – Make your website Google like by Google
It is incredible how quickly your search rankings improve by utilizing some simple on-page optimization tricks.
DIY SEO Tip #2 – Use Analytics To Monitor how people come to your site and use that information
Don't bother paying for expensive tools and services to monitor your website at this point. Google offers great tools through the Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics to monitor your website traffic. These tools will tell you what people searched to find your website, how long they stay on your website, and what pages they visit.
Additionally, you can use the Google Keyword planner to give you suggestions on what keywords would be the most efficient to target. Often there are keywords a business isn't targeting that would be easier to rank for. Ranking for that additional keyword will help drive more traffic.
In terms of acting on it, you can putting an article about that keyword at the bottom of the page (refer to DIY SEO tip #1) or add a blog to your website and post about that particular keyword. You can write these articles yourself or outsource it to someone using the websites mentioned above. Easy!
DIY SEO Tip #3 – An easy and cheap way to backlinks
Backlinks to your website are incredibly important. They are essentially what gives your website "power". So, you want to be careful that you don't use the same keyword when creating these links. For example, when you see a word underlined and it links out to another website that underlined word is called "anchor text". You don't want to use the same anchor text all the time. You will want to vary your anchor text using the specific keywords you are trying to rank for. Additionally, you don't always want these to link back to your home page. You will want to spread them out to link to various pages through the website.
In order to find some places to obtain backlinks that your competitor has, you can use websites such as SpyFu. This is a free tool that has a paid version if you wish to see more info on the website you are researching.
DIY SEO Tip #4 – Consistency
As with most things, consistency will generally win over all. Meaning, you'll want to do consistent link building and content creation until your website is ranked where you want it to be. Google generally really notices your website when you are consistently doing the things the algorithm likes.
You should see a fairly immediate improvement in your rankings by implementing the on-page SEO mentioned above, but that can only take your website so far up the rankings. So, make sure that you have a system in place to do your link building over time.
DIY SEO Tip #5 – Rank monitoring software
Personally, I wouldn't bother with any kind of rank monitoring software if you are doing SEO for your own business. You know what words you want to rank for, so simply take a few minutes out of your day each week and Google those key words using an incognito browsing window.
